Kenchic Ltd, recognized as Africa's leading chicken producer by the International Chicken Council (IPC), has shown a commitment to responsible antimicrobial stewardship. It became the first African business to implement IPC's antimicrobial stewardship standards successfully. This recognition, along with its dedication to ethical chicken farming and sustainable practices, underscores Kenchic Ltd's efforts. The company's initiatives align with programs like TRANSFORM, funded by USAID and led by Cargill, aimed at minimizing antimicrobial usage and ensuring responsible usage when needed. Jim Tozer, Managing Director of Kenchic Ltd, emphasizes the company's mission to contribute to a safer and healthier food supply chain. Additionally, Kenchic Ltd joins a global initiative with six other international groups and two corporations to limit antibiotic use, addressing antibiotic resistance concerns.

In other news, the Kenya Meat Commission (KMC) has shown commendable performance under the Ministry of Defence's oversight, led by CS Aden Duale. This was highlighted by a pivotal Performance Contract signed between the Ministry and KMC, signaling a joint commitment to Kenya's socio-economic development. CS Aden Duale has advocated for KMC's exemption from the list of state-owned enterprises slated for sale, reflecting the government's recognition of its importance in the meat processing sector. Other state-owned enterprises approved for sale include sugar millers and entities like Agrochemical and Food Corporation, New Kenya Co-operative Creameries, and Kenya Wine Agencies Ltd (KWAL).
